I grew up in the Douro Valley region of Portugal and spent a lot of time outdoors while being surrounded by plants, rivers, vineyards, trees and many types of living beings. So, I am drawn to Botanics – by nature & by knowledge as a former pharmacotherapist – & in this article, I am exploring new ways to look bright outside as a mirror of the inside.
Taking care of our skin goes behind the facial visualization or evaluation of the surface of our skin. For me, it is not only about how the skin looks like & concerns with creams – as satisfying as that is – it is about deeply understanding the skin and the person who lives under that skin to root out the causes.

It is not easy, but if you start to do it every day, you will for sure understand better your skin and what it needs in that precisely day.
As mentioned in the title – Inside is Just Important as Outside – we know that our skin is a mirror of our health. As my Pharmacotherapy Teacher – Dra. Fátima Roque – used to say “We can say that a person has depression by looking at her skin”. 10 years later, I still remember that & now as I further explore this subject, I am seeing that the latest scientific studies are establishing a relationship between the gut and skin microbiome.
“The gut and skin microbiota are made up of trillions of microbes, derived from thousands of different strains, that live together as an intricate ecological community. These microbiota, along with their metabolic byproducts and host interactions, directly influence both normal physiology and disease processes.”

In that scientific review, it is discussed the relationship between the gut and skin microbiome and various dermatological diseases including acne, psoriasis, rosacea, and atopic dermatitis.
As so, the scientific knowledge is saying to us that what we eat, the amount of good sleep we have, the amount of sun exposition (don’t forget to always use sunscreens!!!!), the amount of exercise (please hydrate yourself!!!), our lifestyle in general and even the clothes we use might influence our general health & our skin by consequence. Interesting, right?!
In the urge to find skincare products that fulfil my needs, I came across with Easy2Cart.
